Risk disclaimer
We make money when you buy a challenge through our links. So it matters that we are blunt about this: most people who buy one never reach a payout.
The fee is the real cost
An evaluation fee is almost always non-refundable if you fail, and failing is the normal outcome. Treat the fee as money spent, not money invested. If losing it would hurt, do not spend it.
Resets, add-ons and second attempts are how the total quietly grows. Our compounding calculator shows the break-even month on a fee, and it is usually later than people expect.
Simulated, not live
Most firms fund you on a simulated account. You are not trading the firm’s capital in the market; you are trading a demo environment, and the firm pays you a performance fee out of its own money based on that result. That is a legitimate model, but it means your payout depends entirely on the firm remaining solvent and willing to pay.
One breach ends it
A funded account can be lost in a single trade — a daily loss limit crossed by a few dollars, a position held over a news release, an EA that was not allowed. The rules that end accounts are rarely the ones advertised on the pricing page. That is the whole reason Rule Check exists, and it is still not a guarantee: we can only check rules we have verified.
Rules change, sometimes after you buy
Firms update their terms often, occasionally in ways that apply to accounts already running. We track what we can in the change log, but we will not always catch it first.
Firms fail
Prop firms close, lose broker relationships, get cut off by payment providers, or stop paying. It has happened to large, well-reviewed names. A high score here means the data we checked looked good on the date we checked it — it is not a solvency guarantee, and nobody can give you one.
Where you live matters
Some firms will not accept you at all, and some will take your fee and only tell you later. Check restricted countries and the firm’s own terms before paying.
We are not advising you
PropFirmRefer is a comparison site. We are not a regulated financial adviser, we do not know your circumstances, and nothing here is a recommendation to trade or to buy from any firm. Trading involves risk of loss. If you are unsure, speak to someone qualified and independent.
